ALBANY — Albany State University alumni from across the country, faculty, staff, students and Southwest Georgia residents will celebrate another ASU Golden Ram Homecoming this week. The celebration, scheduled to run through Saturday, will be filled with events and activities for every member of the family.
“A Ram Reunion,” the theme for Homecoming 2013 kicks off at 5 p.m. today at the Albany Municipal Auditorium with the official recognition and crowning of Miss Albany State University, Antoinette Skipper. The event, free and open to the public includes a presentation of the Royal Court; also class and campus organization queens. A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony in the Student Center Ballroom on the ASU campus.
Skipper was chosen during a pageant held in March. She is a senior biology major from Jonesboro, whose reign officially begins after Sunday’s coronation.
Weeklong activities include the Gospel Explosion, featuring Darwin Hobbs and the ASU Anointed Gospel Choir at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14 at the Albany Municipal Auditorium. General admission is $10.
An Iron Chef Competition between faculty and staff rolls out Tuesday, Oct. 15. The fun begins at noon in the Sanford Gymnasium.
The Kings of Comedy, a comedy show featuring Gary Owens will be held Thursday, Oct. 17 in the ACAD Auditorium. General admission is $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
“America’s Got Talent” sensation, ASU alumnus Travis Pratt, is this year’s keynote speaker at the Convocation scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday in the HPER Gymnasium located on campus. Following the convocation is the annual Alumni Homecoming Luncheon in L. Orene Hall at noon. The “Stomp the Yard” homecoming step show will be held later that evening at 8.
Saturday is the culmination of the celebration. The Homecoming Parade begins at 9 a.m. on Pine Avenue and ends at Washington street. Afterwards, fans will head to the ASU Coliseum to watch the homecoming game between the Golden Rams and the Morehouse College Tigers at 2 p.m.
