Darton State College was founded in 1963.

Darton offers 88 degree programs (61 transfer degree programs and 26 career degree programs), 39 online degrees. Programs are offered in allied health, business, computer programs, fine arts, social sciences, humanities, nursing, physical education, science and mathematics, in addition to a baccalaureate degree in nursing.

Darton has more than 30 student organizations and 11 athletic programs.

Library: Overall catalog contains about 100,000 titles, including about 27,400 e-books. The e-books and a selection of academic databases including offerings through EbscoHost, ProQuest and Lexis Nexis databases, are available remotely to currently enrolled students and faculty and staff of Darton College. Community patrons are welcome to use resources with the understanding that Darton students have priority and are invited to schedule Library Orientation visits for K-12 schools to coincide with research-intensive assignments such as literary research papers.
