ALBANY — Twin brothers have been charged with aggravated assault for Thursday’s early morning drive-by shooting of two Albany teenagers, police officials say.

Victims Lawilliam Lawrence, 18, Robert Dawson III, 18, and Donnell Taylor, 18, told officers of the Albany Police Department they were walking in the 1000 block of South Harding Street shortly before 1 a.m. when they observed a dark-colored vehicle drive past them and circle the block. After the vehicle had passed, the driver turned around and upon approaching the victims someone from inside the car began shooting at them, the victims stated.

When the shooting started, all the teenagers ran, but Dawson and Taylor were struck by gunfire, officials say. Patricia Roberts, a nearby resident, told police that one of the bullets passed through her bedroom window as she slept. Dawson and Taylor were transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment and observation, officials say, and have since been released.

The brothers, Rakeill Devonta Thomas and Raquaill Devonta Thomas, both 17, were developed as suspects by citizen tips, said Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD. They were charged with four counts each of aggravated assault and transported to the Dougherty County Jail.
