TIFTON — Police in Tifton have arrested a student at Tift County High School for calling in a false bomb threat, police officials say.
Orante Garmon, 17, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, after admitting responsibility for a 911 call warning of a bomb inside the school, said Jared York, detective with the Tifton Police Department.
York said the warning call was placed around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, prompting an immediate evacuation of faculty and students from the high school. Police were able to trace the call to a phone used by Garmon, York said.
“When we sent an officer to the school for Garmon, (Garmon) just handed him the phone,” York said. “He admitted making the call.”
Garmon was transported to the Tift County jail and charged with making a false report of a crime, officials say.
