Mr. George Robert Marlin, Sr. was born November 1, 1933 to the late Clifford and Mamie Nixon Marlin. Most folk knew him as “Peter”.
Peter’s early education was in a one-room church, known as Lizard Lope, located on the outskirts of Scooterville, GA; however his REAL education was the results of hands-on, on-the-job training in farming and mechanical labor.
In 1955, Peter married the lovely Adella Bivens. To this union, four wonderful children were born.
Peter was blessed with one of the most melodious voices you ever wanted to hear. Having been baptized and raised singing in the church, he continued to share his gift well into adulthood. He joined a quartet group started by his late father-in-law, Walter P. Bivens. They were called the Friendly Five. The group’s precision vocal abilities were known throughout the tri-county area and beyond. He also sang with the Gospel Cavaliers.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Adella Marlin; his daughter, Beverly “Tina” (Freddie) Drayton of Sylvester, GA; his sons, George “Gene” (Wynetta) Marlin of Warner Robins, GA, and Eric (Linda) Marlin of Cordele, GA; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren; four sisters, Vyrtice Marlin of Sylvester, GA, Lily (Fred) Walker of Moultrie, GA, Betty (Rev. Leonard) Gray of KS, and Joyce (Chuck) Robinson of FL; three sisters-in-law, Louise Williams of Sylvester, GA, Ella V. Cunningham, Fannie Mae Bivens, both of Poulan, GA; five brothers-in-law, Willie Frank (Eveleen) Bivens of Moultrie, GA, Walter (Barbara) Bivens, Jr., Jimmy Lee Bivens, both of Grand Rapids, MI, Anthony (Loretha) Bivens, Willie Lee (Betty) Bivens, both of Poulan, GA
