HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Player of the Week announced/Today's preview capsules

Today’s Games

Dougherty Trojans (0-8, 0-5) at Americus-Sumter Panthers (3-5, 2-3)

When: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Finklea-Robinson Stadium, Americus

Overview: Dougherty plays its final road game of the season against an Americus-Sumter squad that still has an outside shot at the postseason. However, the Panthers must win tonight as well as next week against Crisp County.

Worth County Rams (3-5, 2-3) at Westover Patriots (6-2, 5-0)

When: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Hugh Mills Stadium, Albany

Overview: Herald No. 3 Westover can clinch the Region 1-AAAA title with a win. Worth County, meanwhile, isn’t officially out of the playoffs. However they face a major uphill climb. They must win their final two games and have Americus-Sumter and Crisp County lose to earn the No. 4 seed.

Northside-Columbus Patriots (1-7, 0-3) at Lee County Trojans (7-1, 2-1)

When: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Lee County High School, Leesburg

Overview: The Herald No. 1 Trojans are in the playoffs. However, their seeding is still up for grabs. Northside has been everyone’s punching bag in Region 1-AAAAA play so far this year.

Early County Bobcats (4-4, 2-2) at Pelham Hornets (4-4, 1-3)

When: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Pelham High School, Pelham

Overview: The Hornets won their first Region 1-AA game last week, while Early County took a giant step toward the playoffs with a win over Fitzgerald. If the Bobcats can win their final two games, they could earn Region 1-AA’s No. 2 seed in the state playoffs. Pelham is hoping for some end-of-the-year magic to slip into the postseason.

Calhoun County Cougars (1-7, 0-4) at Randolph-Clay Red Devils (3-5, 1-3)

When: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Randolph-Clay High School, Cuthbert

Overview: Calhoun County has lost six straight and continues to struggle offensively. Randolph-Clay, meanwhile, has dropped three of four. Both teams need a victory.

Terrell County Eagles (4-4, 2-2) at Stewart County Knights (0-8, 0-4)

When: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Stewart County High School, Lumpkin

Overview: The Knights have been shut out in their last three games and haven’t scored a point since falling 34-6 to Baconton Charter on Sept. 26. Based on the GHSA Class A public school power rankings, Terrell has a shot at the playoffs if they can keep winning.

Seminole County Indians (8-0, 4-0) at Miller County Pirates (4-5, 3-2)

When: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Miller County High School, Colquitt

Overview: Seminole County continues to roll and would like nothing better than to down their arch-rivals and play for the Region 1-A title next week against Mitchell County. Miller County could make its season by beating the Herald No. 2 Indians in the annual “Border War” rivalry.

Sherwood Christian Eagles (2-7, 0-4) at Brookwood Warriors (4-5, 2-2)

When: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Brookwood School, Thomasville

Overview: The final game of the season for Sherwood, which would like to end its season with a victory. Brookwood has already made the playoffs but needs a victory to keep its seeding in tact.

Terrell Academy Eagles (4-5, 1-3) at Westwood Wildcats (6-2-1, 3-1)

When: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Centennial Stadium, Camilla

Overview: Westwood has earned the GISA Region 3-AA No. 2 seed regardless of the outcome of tonight’s game by virtue of head-to-head victories over Brookwood and Southwest Georgia Academy. Terrell could make things interesting with a victory.

Southwest Georgia Warriors (5-4, 2-2) at Valwood Valiants (8-0, 4-0)

When: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Valwood School, Valdosta

Overview: The Valiants have clinched the Region 3-AA title but could finish the regular season unbeaten with a victory. Southwest Georgia needs some positive momentum after losing a tough game to Westwood last week.

Deerfield-Windsor Knights (4-4, 1-2) at Tiftarea Panthers (4-4, 1-2)

When: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Tiftarea Academy, Chula

Overview: It’s a must-win game for the Knights if they want to make the postseason. Deerfield-Windsor has lost two straight region games and currently is tied with Tiftarea for the fourth and final playoff berth from GISA Region 3-AAA.

Saturday’s game

Robert Toombs Christian Crusaders (5-3, 2-0) at Crisp Academy Wildcats (6-3, 2-1)

When: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Crisp Academy, Cordele

Overview: The regular-season finale for the Wildcats, who have already made the postseason. A victory would give Crisp a major spark heading into the playoffs in two weeks.
