Willie Wright

ALBANY - Mr. Willie Wright, 64, of Albany departed this life Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Saint. Joseph’s Hospital, Dunwoody, Georgia.

Willie “Bill” Wright, Jr. was born on March 7, 1949 in Albany, GA to the union of the late Willie Wright, Sr. and Ida Ruth Green Wright. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin Wright, Henry Wright and Nelson Wright.

Bill accepted Christ at Institutional First Baptist Church, where he formally served as a deacon.

After graduating from Monroe High School in Albany, GA, Bill enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. Upon returning to Albany, GA he completed his education at Albany State University. He was the first African American motorcycle officer for the Albany Police Department.

Bill married Mary L. Jones, and to this union there were three children. Bill is survived by one son, Brian M. Wright of Morrow, GA; two daughters, Karen A. Wright of Stockbridge, GA, Gaea W. DeWalt of Chesapeake, VA; seven brothers, Johnny L. Wright (Estella), Arthur Wright (Linda), David Wright, Charlie Wright, Gregory Wright, Kenneth Wright of Albany, GA and Mark Anthony Wright of Glendale, AZ; two sisters, Elizabeth Head (Joseph) of Iselin, NJ and Joyce Wright Anighoro of Albany, GA; mother in law, Mary Davis of Eufaula, AL and father in law James Jones of Albany, GA; six sisters in law, Ozie Wright, Cynthia Inman and Leila Conley (Thomas) of Albany, GA, Janice Thomas of Cincinnati, OH, Annie Ware of Columbus, GA and Michelle Hill (Lewis) of Eufaula, AL; two brothers in law Johnny Davis Jr. (Emma) of Hodge, LA and Eddie Davis of Eufaula, AL; one aunt, Beatrice Cuff of Albany, GA.

Bill is also survived by five grandkids whom he loved beyond measure; Terrance “Terry”, Brian, Brandon, Cedric “C. J.,” Cassidy “sugar mama” and “the Queen,” and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 901 S. Westover Blvd, Albany, Georgia with Pastor, Dr. Daniel Simmons, officiating with interment to follow in the Floral Memory Gardens, 120 Old Pretoria Road, Albany, Georgia.

The remains will lie in state at the church Saturday from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour. The family of Mr. Wright will receive relatives and friends at 2116 Kirkwood Road, Albany, Georgia. Meadows Funeral Home will be incharge of the arrangements
