ALBANY — Murder investigations were opened up over the weekend following a shooting in Ashburn and a stabbing in Americus, reports show.
On Monday, Ashburn Police Department Chief Joe Saxon said that Robert Ricardo Brown, 21, was arrested for a shooting in which one individual was killed and a second injured.
The shootings took place in the early morning hours of Saturday on Howell Circle in Ashburn. Quintonio Traylor, 24, was killed and Nathaniel Thomas injured. Brown, a resident of Ashburn, was arrested on a murder charge in Traylor’s death and aggravated assault because of Thomas’ injuries, Saxon said.
Brown was transported Monday to the Turner County Sheriff’s Office, where he was to be held pending multiple felony warrants, Saxon said.
Another fatal incident occurred early Sunday in Sumter County as the result of a stabbing, officials said Monday.
At 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office was called to 107 Lexington Circle in Americus in reference to an unconscious person. Responding officers determined that Oscar Reyes, 17, of Americus died from a possible stab wound to the upper torso, a news release issued by the sheriff’s office said Monday.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation office in Americus was called in to assist in the investigation. Later on Sunday, Hilber Morales-Miguel, 24, also of Americus, was located in a nearby Waffle House parking lot and taken into custody without incident, officials with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said.
The investigation is continuing and formal charges are expected to be filed today against Morales-Miguel, the news release said.
