Albany business robbed at gunpoint

ALBANY — Officers with the Albany Police Department are continuing their search for three black men who robbed Popeye’s Fried Chicken at 1401 S. Slappey Blvd. Monday evening. Police said one of the robbers was carrying a shotgun.

Restaurant employees told police the three men entered the back door of the business shortly before 9:30 p.m., took the cash register drawer and fled on foot toward nearby Cedar Avenue Apartments. The register drawer was later found on the grounds of the apartment complex, officials say.

The first suspect is described as 5 feet 11 inches, weighing about 224 pounds and wearing a blue shirt. The second suspect is described as about six feet tall, 180 pounds and wearing a white shirt, which may have holes torn in it. The third suspect was wearing a white shirt and gray shorts, police officials say.

According to Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the Albany Police Department, citizens are warned not to approach the suspects, but to call the APD at 431-2100.
