Teen pedestrian struck by SUV

ALBANY — An Albany teenager was struck Tuesday by a car on Lippitt Drive, police officials say. According to Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the Albany Police Department, Donte Carter, 17, was struck by a 2001 Ford Expedition driven by Leresa Harris, 32.

Banks said Carter was walking south on Lippitt Drive when he crossed in front on Harris, who was traveling east. Following the accident, Carter was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for observation, officials said.

Banks said charges are pending investigation. Officials of the traffic unit of the APD stressed that pedestrians should look both ways and cross safely on roadways in heavy traffic areas and school zones, especially if there are no crossing guards or crosswalk markings.
