TIFTON — A Georgia State Patrol trooper and a teenage motorist were injured Wednesday in a two-accident near Tifton.
Cpl. Dana Harnage of GSP Post 13 in Tifton said the accident occurred on Eldorado Road around 2:40 p.m. Harnage said Tavaris Byron, 18, was driving south on Eldorado Road in a 1999 Mercury Sable as GSP trooper Richard Kennedy, 44, was traveling north in Dodge Charger GSP cruiser.
Harnage said that as Byron attempted to make a left turn onto a private driveway, Kennedy’s cruiser struck the right front corner of the Sable. According to Harnage, Byron was driving with only a learner’s permit and was charged with violation of license restrictions and failure to yield.
According to Harnage, although Byron was able to walk and appeared to have no serious injuries, he was transported to Tift Regional Hospital for treatment. Kennedy was treated for minor injuries and released, Harnage said.
