Former P&G managers to present health fair
ALBANY — A group of former Procter & Gamble managers who gather in Albany regularly to hold reunions are planning a family and community health, wellness and lifestyles event while they are in town later this month.
Brenda Bryant, chair of the 2013 Albany P&G Legacy Reunion, said “Living Well is the Best Revenge” will be conducted from 8:45 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 28 at PT Gym, 1420 Dawson Road.
The focus will be on the prevention of disease and illness, in particular that of obesity and diabetes. Free screenings will be provided for blood pressure and glucose. Instructions will be provided on diabetes, hypertension and nutrition. A continental breakfast and snacks will be provided.
Also on the schedule is a free Zumba demonstration. Door prizes will be awarded.
Tifton gets stop on state traveling art exhibit tour
TIFTON _ A stop in Tifton is included in the state’s first traveling art exhibit, according to Gov. Nathan Deal.
Featuring 28 pieces from Georgia’s state art collection, the exhibit plans to stop in Tifton for a six to eight week stay at some point in the next 14 months. Specific dates have not been announced. The Tifton showing will be at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture Art Gallery.
The state art collection, owned and managed by the Georgia Council for the Arts, features work created by Georgia artists form the 1970s to the 1990s. Featured are original works by Benny Andrews, Lucinda Bunnen, Herbert Creecy, Howard Finster, Ruth Laxon and Nellie Mae Rowe.
The Tifton viewing is the only stop in the Southwest Georgia area.
Sertoma Clubs donates funds; seek new charities
ALBANY — Artesian City Sertoma Club presented a $10,000 check to Flint River Habitat for Humanity representing part of the proceeds from he club’s annual truck raffle.
At the same time, the club is now accepting written proposals from community organizations to receive funds for the 2014 Artesian City Sertoma Club truck raffle. Proposals can be sent to Artesian City Sertoma Club, P.O. Box 70341, Albany, Ga. 31708.
The club will select two organziations to be benefactors of up to $10,000 each. Proposals will be accepted through Sept. 30.
Farm Bureau sponsoring hay contest
ALBANY — People who grow Bermudagrass hay are being invited to enter a Quality Hay contest being conducted by Georgia Farm Bureau.
There is a $15 entry fee for each sample entered to cover the cost of lab testing by the University of Georgia.
“Each person who enters the contest will receive a copy of the analysis information from the University of Georgia testing lab, which is a great tool for measuring the nutrition quality of your hay and seeing how you may need to make adjustments in your hay production methods to improve the quality of your hay,” said Laney Wooten, president of Dougherty County Farm Bureau.

Business Expo scheduled at Hilton Garden Inn
ALBANY - Representatives of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce say only a few booths remain to be rented for the annual Business Expo conducted by the Chamber each year.
This year’s event will be conducted from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday at Hilton Garden Inn Conference Center.

Tift Park hosting Albany Family Play Day
ALBANY — When was the last time you played “Simon Says,” tossed a Frisbee, or took part in a potato sack race?
The Albany Recreation and Parks Department and Youth Becoming Healthy want you to come out to Tift Park and play like a kid again. Albany Family Play Day is a day dedicated to the celebration of healthy and active play. It’s a family-friendly event that will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Tift Park.
The event is free and open to the public, so bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a day outside with the entire family. There will be art and craft activities as well as bouncy rides, relay races and other games with prizes. Home Depot will be there with activity kits for the kids. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
