APD responds to aggravated assaults, gunshots

ALBANY — Two reported shootings and an aggravated assault with a possible garden tool made up for the Sunday activity responded to by the Albany Police Department, reports show.

The aggravated assault was reported from 1613 Gardner Drive between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. In that case, a 47-year-old woman reported that Shontavia Jefferson, 30, struck her in the top of her head with an unknown type of weapon — which was initially described as a possible gardening tool, APD reports said.

The woman sustained a deep laceration and she was treated by medical emergency personnel, said Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD.

One of the shootings, also labeled as an aggravated assault, was reported from the 400 block of South Valencia Drive around 7:40 p.m. In that case, the victim stated that, while driving in the 400 block of South Valencia Drive, an unknown person or persons started shooting at his vehicle, Banks said.

Victim stated that he never saw who shot at his vehicle. No arrests had been made and no suspects named as of late Monday afternoon, Banks said.

The second shooting was labeled as a reckless conduct report. In that case, a woman on the 2500 block of Lakeshore Drive reported that several subjects had fired shots toward her family around 10 p.m. Sunday. No further information was immediately available on Monday afternoon on that case.
