Arrest made in death of Baker County man
NEWTON — An arrest has been made in the death of William Land, an elderly Newton man whose body was found Sept. 10 in his residence.
The man charged with felony murder in the death, Ulysses Blackshear Jr., 44, of Newton, was already in jail in Dougherty County on a probation violation when the charge was filed Tuesday, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Blackshear has been charged with felony murder and robbery in connection with Land’s death.
Land’s body was discovered at his residence, 241 Clearlake Road, during a wellness check. New Police Chief Jesse Rivers requested that the GBI provide assistance with the investigation, according to the GBI statement.
Baker County Coroner Andy Belinc has confirmed that Land apparently suffered from blunt trauma to the head just preceeding his death. Belince declined to make further statements until seeing a report from the autopsy performed at the GBI lab in Macon.
