Arrests made in August beating case

ALBANY — Arrests have been made in connection with the August 12 beating of 68-year-old Raymond Tilley, Albany Police Department officials say.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the Albany Police Department, said Andrew Jamal Gadson, 19, was arrested in East Albany Friday and transported to the Dougherty County Jail. Banks said Gadson has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, robbery by force, possession of a tool during the commission of a crime and probation violation.

According to Banks, an unidentified juvenile, 16, was also arrested and charged with four counts of entering auto, with pending charges of assault. The juvenile has been sent to the regional youth detention center, Banks said.

The beating victim had been found outside Dinner Bell Catering, 1206 Clark Ave., around 3:30 a.m., Banks said, where he had been hired to open the business. According to officials, Tilley had a large laceration on his head and had been assaulted by an unknown assailant. Tilley was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for medical treatment, Banks said.
