ALBANY _ The Albany chapter of The Links Inc., an international service organization, has been busy this year celebrating the 30th year of its existence.
The Albany chapter received its charter in 1983 and has been recognized through the years for its service in the arts, services to youth and services to other projects.
Several 30-year members of the organization are still active in the chapter. They include Mona Parker, chairperson, Constance Adams, Naomi Carroll, Martha Craft, Joyce Griffin, Suzanne Gordon, Brenda Hodges-Tiller, Freddie Powell Sims and Patricia Victor.
To observe its 30th year, the local chapter planned a special week of services coordinated by Carroll. The activities included a local blood drive with the Red Cross, volunteering at the James Gray Senior Center, participating in the mayor’s beautification project at a local school, giving food baskets to deserving families during “Thanksgiving in May.” The week ended with a service at Bethel AME Church with a message from the Rev. Ernest Davis, senior pastor.
The group plans to end its 30th year with a benefit fundraisers in December coordinated by members Joanne Taylor and Sonya Acree.
