ALBANY — John Millikan has been promoted to sports editor of The Albany Herald.
Millikan, a native of New Castle, Ind., succeeds Danny Aller, who resigned earlier this month to relocate to Florida.
“We’re fortunate to have a talent of John’s caliber on staff to step into this critical role,” Herald Editor Jim Hendricks said. “John has done a tremendous job for us in the the two and a half years that he has been with The Herald, and he will be a top-notch editor.”
A 2009 graduate of Anderson University, Millikan served as sports editor of the the Sullivan Daily Times in Sullivan, Ind., before he and his wife, Kathryn, moved to Albany in April 2011.
With The Herald, Millikan has primarily been responsible for coverage of local college sports programs, including Albany State, Darton, Albany Tech, Georgia Southwestern, Andrew College and South Georgia Tech. He will continue to serve as the local college beat writer, along with his sports editor duties.
“Danny left big shoes to fill, and I am excited for the opportunity to uphold the standards that our readers have come to expect from The Herald’s award-winning sports department,” Millikan said. “I am thrilled to be able to work with new Herald preps writer Tim Morse, who is a great addition to the staff and somebody who will make an already great sports section even better.”
