AFD Inspector dies in motorcycle accident

LEESBURG — Albany Fire Department Inspector Daniel Harden was killed Tuesday morning when a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe crashed into his motorcycle on Pinewood Road in Lee County at the main entrance to Lee State Prison.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper Jack Strickland said the Tahoe was driven by Karis Stubbs of Albany and that the accident occurred at 7:21 Tuesday morning. Strickland said Harden was pronounced dead at the scene.

Harden, 56, had been with the AFD for six years, arriving in Albany via Baltimore.

“We’re all in a state of shock right now,” AFD Chief James Carswell said. “This is a true tragedy and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, because he was also a big part of our family. He will be greatly missed.”

Hardin was heavily involved in the Georgia Fire Burn Foundation and just recently had helped donate 60 prom dresses to young burn victims through the foundation.

“The Burn Foundation was one of his passions,” Carswell said. “He was very actively involved with them.”

Strickland said that the accident remains under active investigation and no charges have been filed thus far.

Funeral arrangements for Harden are pending.
