ALBANY - Ms. Gladys Jackson,85, 408 Emily Avenue, Apt B, Albany, Georgia departed this life Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at her residence. On Tuesday, September 17, 2013, the Angel of Death moved swiftly, but calmly into the home of Sister Gladys Hooks-Jackson quietly entered into eternal rest. She was born July 19, 1928 to the late Eddie and Willie James Hooks who preceded her in death. Robert Earl Jackson also preceded her in death.
She attended Gillespie Seldon Institute High School where she excelled in academics and in the sport of basketball. She was employed as a baker at Davis Brothers Cafeteria and a cook at Howard Johnson Restaurant. Later, she served as a caregiver for the Murphy family. Mrs. Jackson was also an advocate for the welfare of children and a promoter for education, and knowledge.
She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Piney Grove Baptist Church in Leesburg, Georgia. Later years, she joined the Third Kiokee Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia where she faithfully served on the usher board and the mother’s board.
Mrs. Jackson leaves to cherish her memories: John (Helen) Jackson, Jr. Atlanta, GA. Marie (Arthur) Hamilton, Macon, GA. Willie James Jackson, Sr., Albany. GA. Rosie (Gregory) Allen, Albany. GA. Kenneth (Niesha) Jackson, Japan & Korea; one sister, Shirlene McCrary, Albany, GA: two sister-in-laws; Annie B. Hooks. Albany, GA, Betty Sue Reddick, Irvington, NJ; nine grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. from the Third Kiokee Baptist Church, 521 Carver Avenue, Albany, Georgia with Rev. John T. Jackson, Officiating. Interment will follow in the Floral Memory Gardens, 120 Old Pretoria Road. The remains will lie in state at the church Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour. The family of Ms. Gladys Jackson will receive relatives and friends at 408 Emily Avenue, Apt B, Albany, Georgia with Meadows Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
