ALBANY — The Darton baseball team entered the national poll on Tuesday, taking spot No. 20 in the NJCAA Division I baseball rankings.

It is Darton’s first national ranking of the season and the fifth poll released bi-weekly by the NJCAA.

The Cavs have won 20 of their last 24 games and have really gained a lot of national attention lately as the team begins to gel.

“We’ve always had the talent,” Darton first baseman Brandon Sharpe said. “Now we’re finally starting to see some parts clicking together.”

The ranking follows a huge week for the Cavs, who went 8-0 and scored a total of 84 runs. They return to the field today for a Region XVII game at Andrew College.

Sharpe, a sophomore who batted over .500 last week and was responsible for 28 of Darton’s runs, said the program is where it needs to be as it inches closer to the Region XVII tournament.

“It’s going to be the perfect time to hit the peak,” he said.
