Albany State baseball finishes SIAC slate unbeaten

ALBANY — Another Sunday, another sweep.

This time it wrapped up a perfect conference record for the Albany State baseball team.

The Rams finished a three-game sweep of Paine with a 6-2 victory on Sunday to close their SIAC regular-season schedule a perfect 20-0. It was also the 16th overall win in the last 17 games for the Rams, who are now 28-15 overall.

Former Worth County star Allen Fender was dazzling again on the mound, throwing seven innings and striking out five.

Reise McDaniel and Allen Hardy each had two RBIs to lead ASU at the plate, where the Rams scattered seven hits as a team.

The Rams jumped ahead 2-0 in the second inning with a pair of runs, but Paine pulled to within one in the fourth inning and trailed by just a run until ASU broke the game open with a four-run seventh inning.

ASU plays again Tuesday at home against Armstrong Atlantic and travels to Columbus State on Wednesday. The Rams will be the East Division’s No. 1 seed SIAC tournament April 24 in Ozark, Ala.
