Woman, 69, killed in three-car wreck on Ledo Road

A second motorist in the wreck at the entrance of Walmart is taken to the hospital for treatment

ALBANY — A 69-year-old motorist was killed Thursday in a three-vehicle collision on Ledo Road at the Lee County Walmart.

Georgia State Patrol Senior Trooper Walter Spurlin said Pamela Faye Johnson, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was leaving the Walmart parking lot near Chili’s restaurant around 1 p.m. when the Chevrolet Cavalier she was driving was hit by a pewter-colored GMC Yukon driven by Melissa Swift of Albany.

The impact caused the Yukon driven by Swift to spin counterclockwise, Spurlin said, and collide with a third vehicle, a Nissan Titan driven by Shugart Lafleur of Lee County.

Johnson’s Cavalier came to rest facing north of Ledo Road near Byne Memorial Church, Spurlin said.

Lafleur and her 2-year-old passenger were uninjured in the accident, Spurlin said, but Swift was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for observation. Her condition was not available Thursday afternoon.

The accident remained under investigation Thursday afternoon.
