Gunmen steal cash in two weekend robberies in Albany

Albany police respond to business, residential armed armed robberies

ALBANY — The Albany Police Department is investigating two armed robberies that took place over the weekend, one at a residence and the other at a restaurant.

An armed robbery at the Subway at 1801 N. Slappey Blvd. took place at 10:44 p.m. Saturday. Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said officers responded to an armed robbery in progress. Upon arrival, the victims reported that gunmen entered the business and robbed them. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the register and the safe, after which the bandits fled.

The residential armed robbery was around 12:30 a.m on Sunday. The three victims, ranging in ages from 24 to 35, reported that three unknown gunmen forced their way into 1701 W. Broad Ave., Apt. A by kicking open the door before robbing them.

The victims said the robbers entered and left the apartment through the rear door. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken, Banks said.

Both cases remained under investigation Monday, Banks said. No injuries were reported in either incident.
