Albany police arrest two on suspicion of shoplifting

An Albany pharmacy reports a shoplifting incident

ALBANY — Police officers responding Wednesday to a shoplifting call at Rite-Aid Pharmacy at 2425 N. Slappey Blvd. missed their suspects, police officials say, but made their arrests shortly after at a different Rite-Aid at Dawson Road and Westgate Drive.

According to police, after the suspects fled the North Slappey location, officers canvassed the area and located the 2013 Hyundai Sonata the suspects had been driving at the second Rite-Aid location, where they blocked the vehicle and made the arrests.

APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said Coretta Bracy, 39, and Johnnie Jackson, 34, were charged with shoplifting and transported to the Dougherty County Jail.

Jackson was also charged with theft by receiving stolen property in conjunction with the Hyundai, which was stolen in Cobb County, Banks said.

A 2-year-old boy, identified as Bracy’s son, was turned over to the Department of Family and Children’s Services, Banks said.

Officials say the pair are suspected of shoplifting from at least four other Albany locations including Dollar General stores and Rite-Aid pharmacies.
