ALBANY — Officers of the Dougherty County Police Department executed a search warrant Friday at Solo’s Sportswear and Accessories, 243 E. Oglethorpe Blvd., in Shackleford Shopping Center.
Sgt. Ted Wertz with the DCP, who headed up the operation, said the store had been suspected of selling counterfeit name-brand merchandise, including watches, music DVD knock-offs, T-shirts and other items.
“We made an undercover buy of a watch represented as a Casio G-Shock, which Casio later confirmed to be a fake,” Wertz said. “We found a number of other suspected knock-off items here as well.”
So far no arrests have been made in the operation, Wertze said, but charges relating to name-brand infringement may be pending against the unidentified owner of the shop. The DCP launched the raid shortly after noon Friday, police officials say, and began loading evidence onto a truck.
The store lies within Albany city limits, meaning the case might ordinarily have been handled by the Albany Police Department, but Wertz said he discovered the alleged knock-off operation while working on another case.
“It was so obvious, I don’t even want to talk about it,” Wertz said.
Representatives of the Dougherty District Attorney’s office participated in the search.
