Albany man covered with garbage in landfill accident

Garbage truck dumps refuse on man in landfill

ALBANY — A Dougherty County dump truck driver unintentionally dropped a load of landfill refuse on another driver Wednesday, officials say.

Scott Addison, Dougherty County solid waste director, said the incident occurred around 6 p.m. at the Dougherty County landfill, 900 Gaissert Road, when a driver for Trans Waste Services on Washington Street left his dump truck and walked too closely behind another truck as it released its load of garbage. Addison was not present at the time of the incident, he said.

“They were able to dig him out pretty quickly,” Addison said, “He had some cuts on his arm but otherwise seemed alright.”

Officials say the injured driver, Elton Barfield, was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment of his cuts and for a tetanus shot.
