Kay Hind, executive director for the SOWEGA Council on Aging, has been appointed by Keith Horton, commissioner for the Georgia Department of Human Services, to an additional three-year term to the Georgia Council on Aging.
The Georgia Council on Aging advocates with and on behalf of aging Georgians and their families to improve their quality of life. The group educates, advises, informs and makes recommendations concerning programs for the elderly in Georgia. They also serve in an advisory capacity on aging issues to the governor, General Assembly, Board of Human Services and all other state agencies.
Hind has served on the council since 1977 except for a small break in service.
Ralf G. Augenstein, M.D., of Phoebe Tower Medical Group recently earned his Board Certification in Sleep Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine. He diagnoses and treats sleep disorders and is conducting sleep studies at the Phoebe Albany and Phoebe Sumter Sleep Disorders centers.
Augenstein joined Tower Medical Group in 2003 and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. After graduating from the Free University Berlin Medical School in Germany, he received residency training at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, and at Stanford University. He also completed a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Hawaii.
Augenstein holds a diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine, and a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Michael J. Cox has joined Longleaf Dental to practice dentistry following his recent graduation from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry in Augusta .
Born in Bainbridge and raised in Climax, Cox attended Valdosta State University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in biology. He was a founding member of the first VSU pre-dental club. Cox was active in the American Student Dental Association and the Georgia Dental Association student chapter. He currently is a member of the Georgia Dental Association and the Georgia Academy of General Dentistry.
Cox’s wife, Christina, also recently graduated from the MCG School of Dentistry and is practicing in Albany.
