Albert Randall Cooper

MOULTRIE -A lbert Randall Cooper, 80, of Pavo, died Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Unihealth at Magnolia Manor South in Moultrie.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Cobb Funeral Chapel in Moultrie with the Rev. Dr. Robert L. Slane officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Lebanon Cemetery in Pavo.

Casketbearers will be Mike Norman, Chris Norman, Don Norman, Rick McMillan, Trent McMillan and Cory Norman.

Born December 20, 1933 in Colquitt County, he was the son of the late Zera Fondren Cooper and Nellie Mae Dodson Cooper.

Mr. Cooper graduated from Pavo High School and then attended Martha Berry College in Rome, Ga., where he graduated with a BS Degree in English. He later received his Masters and Specialist Degrees from Georgia Southern University.

In August of 1956, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. After completing his tour of duty, he began his teaching career with Pelham City Schools, next at Pavo City Schools and then transferring to Thomas County Central High School, where he retired after 40 years as an English Teacher. While at Central, he was head of the English Department for several years. In addition, he taught English at the University of Georgia Extension Technical College.

Mr. Cooper was well liked by the students as well as the faculty. In 1980, he was honored as Teacher of the Year. He was an avid Yellow Jacket fan and held a very important job keeping the statistics for both the football and baseball teams.

He was affiliated with many professional and local organizations. He was a dedicated member of Pavo United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and served in many other capacities.

Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Melba Norman and husband Cecil of Leesburg; one brother, Clinton Wayne Cooper of Pavo; nephews and nieces, Mike Norman and wife Donna of Fitzgerald, Brenda McMillan and husband Rick of Leesburg, Chris Norman and wife Anne of Albany and Don Norman of Albany.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Cobb Funeral Chapel in Moultrie.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Pavo United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 97, Pavo, Ga 31778.
