ALBANY — The SOWEGA Council on Aging is coordinating the Powerful Tools for Caregivers program that offers a six-week course designed to help caregivers of adults. The classes are held one day a week for two and a half hours each week.
Over the six-week course, caregivers will learn tips and strategies on how to manage self-care and learn about caregiver’s needs, reduce stress, reduce negative emotions such as guilt, anger and depression, communicate effectively with other family members, doctors and paid help, make tough decisions, set goals and problem solving
The classes are offered on an ongoing basis. Currently the following classes are scheduled in the various locations throughout the service area including Albany, Sylvester, Newton and Cairo.
Specific times and locations are: Albany, Wednesdays from Feb. 19 through March 26, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Sylvester, every Monday from March 3 through April 7, 2:30 to 5 p.m.; Newton, every Thursday April 17 through May 22, 2 to 4:30 p.m.; Albany, every Monday May 5 through June 9, 2:30 to 4 p.m.; Cairo, every Wednesday May 21 through June 25, 2 to 4:30 p.m. Registration deadline is due one week prior to class; $10 registration fee due on first day of class.
The registration deadline is one week prior to the class. A $10 registration fee is due on 1st day of class. A caregiver help book will be available for purchase.
