It was a little tougher than expected but Pelham finished its unbeaten regular-season with a 23-0 record after spanking Brooks County 67-41 in Quitman Saturday night.

And the 2013-14 Pelham High Lady Hornets accomplished something that no other team in school history - not even the 1997 state championship team - could do with their unblemished regular-season mark.

Next up for the Lady Hornets, who have already qualified for the Class AA state tournament, is the region tournament semifinals on Thursday against an opponent to be determined.

Herald Super 6er Briunna Freeman lead the way with 19 points, while Destiny Thomas added 17. Quadranique Franklin finished with 10 to lead the Lady Hornets’ scoring attack. Pelham built a 33-12 lead at halftime.

DEERFIELD-WINDSOR GIRLS 45, BROOKWOOD 36: Deerfield-Windsor shook off a late Brookwood rally to post its second win in as many nights. The Lady Knights were led by Nyla Perry’s 20 points. Jordan Lane added nine.

Brookwood tied the game at 32 early in the fourth but Deerfield went on a 5-0 run to put the game away.

SEMINOLE COUNTY BOYS 87, BAINBRIDGE 79: In a matchup of regular-season champions from Region 1-A (Seminole County) and Bainbridge (Region 1-AAAAA), the Indians outlasted the Bearcats in a nonregion affair.

Seminole improved to 19-2 on the season behind 25 points from Jordan Harris and 24 from Anfernee King.

Bainbridge got 35 points from Herald Super 6er Tyree Crump who finished with 35 points, including 18 in the third quarter on six 3-pointers. Dominique Douglas added 13.

PELHAM BOYS 69, BROOKS COUNTY 60: Pelham won its 16th straight game and finished its Region 1-AA slate undefeated after holding off a furious second-half comeback attempt by Brooks County. The Hornets led 50-23 at halftime before Brooks charged back.

Pelham (20-3) was led by Jaquan Green, who finished with 16 points. Joshua Russell added 12 and Duntrez Moore and Clarence Almond added 10 points apiece.

The Hornets, the top seed in next week’s Region 1-AA Tournament, won’t play again until the semifinals on Thursday. Pelham will play host to a team to be determined.

CALHOUN COUNTY BOYS 64, RANDOLPH-CLAY 53: In a key Region 1-A game to end the regular season, Calhoun County (22-1) avenged its only loss of the season by topping Randolph-Clay in Edison, winning its eighth straight game.

Reginald Ross led the Cougars with 19 points, while Quenton Taylor added 14 points, DaJohn Williams 12 and Devorriss Haynes 11.

The Red Devils (19-6) were led by Kwymente Parker’s 14 points. Herald Super 6er Gary McCrae finished with 10 points.
