Arrest made in Camilla fatal shooting

Police apprehend 21-year-old man in connection to fatal shooting

CAMILLA — An arrest was made early Sunday in connection to a fatal shooting that had taken place the night before in Camilla, officials with the Camilla Police Department said Monday.

Robert Casterline, chief investigator with the Camilla Police Department, said officers were called out to 139 Shivers Alley at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday in reference to shots being fired. Officers arrived to find Rodney Pate, 21, lying in the driveway with multiple gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene and Pate was taken to Mitchell County Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Casterline said.

The investigator said witnesses reported that the suspect, identified as Samuel Stork, 21, was exchanging words with Pate, but since nobody was close enough, it is not clear what exactly the conversation was about. Stork reportedly walked off to his car, came back later and started shooting — fatally wounding Pate, Casterline said.

Stork went back into his car and left. Information was received regarding where he lived. Officers went to his residence, located at the edge of the county, and found his car — but he was not there, Casterline said. He was caught a couple of blocks away and taken into custody without incident at around 2 a.m. on Sunday, Casterline said.

Stork has been charged with one count of murder and was taken to Mitchell County Jail. There are no other arrests pending, and there was nothing to indicate, as of Monday afternoon, that drugs were involved, Casterline said.
