Hamilton Relay adding 40 in Albany

Telecommunications company Hamilton Relay adding 40 positions to Albany center

ALBANY — Telecommunications provider Hamilton Relay announced this week that it will be expanding its workforce, adding 40 new positions to its Albany center.

Hamilton Relay, a national telecommunications relay and captioned telephone services provider with offices in 16 states, established its Georgia center in Albany in 2006 and is now looking to add a variety of new positions to its staff.

The company is looking to add 40 total positions in Albany over the next several months, beginning with the immediate filling of 12 part-time and full-time captioning assistant positions.

Captioning assistants work behind the scenes to re-voice everything said by a standard phone user into state-of-the-art voice recognition software that then converts the speech, almost simultaneously, into a text that appears on a special phone called a CapTel Phone.

CapTel phone technology, developed by Ultratec, Inc. allows user to view word for word captions of what’s being said to them on a display screen, much like the captions seen on a television screen.

The decision to expand the Albany workforce is being driven both by an increased demand for captioning services throughout Hamilton Relay’s footprint and the company’s feeling that Albany’s workforce is ideal for filling the new positions.

“Early testing indicates that the new skill set Hamilton seeks for the new positions is well matched for the Albany workforce,” said Hamilton Relay Vice President Dixie Zeigler. “Hamilton is excited about the growth of our services and the opportunities it beings for our employees and the community of Albany and surrounding areas.”

The addition of 40 new jobs to the Albany economy follows a recent trend in job growth for the area over the past year which has area business leaders excited about the future.

“We are extremely excited that Hamilton Relay will be expanding operations and adding jobs to their workforce,” said Albany Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Chris Hardy. “We can’t stress enough the importance of continuous job growth in our community. Adding more people to our workforce and contributing to the local economy is vital to creating a sound and vital business climate.”

Applications for the available positions can be completed online at www.workforhamilton.com or in person at the Albany Center located at 2231 Dawson Road, Suite T.
