ALBANY — In a first for Darton’s swimming and diving program, neither the men’s nor women’s teams took home a Region XVII title on Saturday.
Instead, it was South Georgia College that went home with a pair of first-place finishes.
The Tigers barely beat the Cavs in the men’s events, 155-151, while the Lady Tigers won with ease, 176-121.
Darton, however, still won a number of events. Gabe Downey won the 100 and 200 backstroke; JD Rosseau continued to dominate with victories in the mile and 500-freestyle; and Stone Peterson won the 200 butterfly.
In women’s action, Darton’s Sandra Guerrero swept the mile, 100 and 200 butterfly, while teammate Ashley Delgado was unstoppable in the 500, 200 and 100 free.
Kelsey Carniglia became the region’s No. 1 diver on the 1-meter board as she scored 217.40 to Sarah Hoop’s 198.15. Hoop, who won a national title in 2013, later won the 3-meter event, scoring 218.15 to Carnigila’s 212.35.
Crawford Berry, also a national champion in 2013, swept the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, scoring 312.85 and 328.75, respectively.
