Kiwanians sponsoring 34th annual art contest, exhibit

Top work submitted will compete for district awards in Carrollton

ALBANY — As 2014 marches on toward spring, time is drawing closer for the Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County’s 34th annual Student Art Contest and Exhibit.

Details of the exhibition and competition are being circulated to all schools in Dougherty and Lee counties in preparation for judging on Tuesday, March 11, at the Albany Area Arts Council. An awards ceremony and reception will follow on Sunday, March 16, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at the Albany Museum of Art.

On Monday, April 7, elementary school art entries will go on display in the Sears wing of Albany Mall and remain until Monday, April 21. Mall management will host a reception for elementary students, teachers, and parents on Friday, April 11, from 4-5:30 p.m.

After the elementary art is removed on April 21, entries from middle and high school students will go on exhibit at the same location in the mall until Sunday afternoon May 4. First-, second-, and third-place winners will be displayed separately in a “Winners’ Circle” area near Belk.

On Monday, May 5, the first-, second-, and third-place winners and their art instructors will be honored at the traditional awards luncheon in conjunction with the Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County’s weekly meeting at Hilton Garden Inn, from 12 noon to 1:45 p.m. The winning art works will also be on display.

The top eight winning art works from the local showcase will also vie in Kiwanis Georgia District competition in Carrollton, which has yielded numerous local winners in the past.

The 2014 Kiwanis Art Contest is being co-chaired by Kiwanis of Dougherty members Kristin Caso and Kevin Armstrong.
