Democrats announce details on local qualifying

Qualifying begins March 3 for local offices

ALBANY — Democratic candidates in Dougherty County interested in running in Georgia’s primary election on May 20 can begin qualifying for office on March 3, says Constance M. Burkes, chairperson, Dougherty County Democratic Committee.

Burkes said qualification will be held at the offices of Dukes, Edwards & Dukes Inc., 407 S. Slappey Blvd. Qualifying will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on March 3-6, and 9 a.m. until noon on March 7.

Local qualifying fees include chairman of the Dougherty County Commission, $324; county commissioners for Districts 2, 4 and 6, $288, and Dougherty School Board members, District 2, 4 and 6, $90.

Burkes said the preference is that qualifying fees be payable by cash, money order or cashier’s check.
