ALBANY — Theatre Albany has auditions scheduled for Sunday and Monday for eight roles in its March production, “Mama Won’t Fly.”
Artistic Director Mark Costello said the auditions are set for 7 p.m. on both days at the theater, which is located at 514 Pine Ave. The cast includes six women and two men.
“Mama Won’t Fly” is a comedy written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. It is described as an outrageously hilarious race against the clock that begins when one of the characters, Savannah Sprunt Fairchild Honeycutt, agrees to get her feisty mother, who board an airplane, from Alabama to California in time for her brother’s wedding. Those plans, as one might expect, go terribly awry.
Previous works by the trio of playwrights that have been performed by Theatre Albany include “The Dixie Swim Club,” “‘Til Beth Do Us Part” and “Christmas Belles.”
Costello said he is looking to cast women for three specific characters: Norleen Sprunt, the mom; Savannah, and Hayley Quinn, the future daughter-in-law. He also needs three women to play various roles of women ages late 30 and older. Two Men, ages 30 to late 60s, also are needed to play various roles.
The auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
Costello said rehearsals for the production are set to begin next month, with performances scheduled for March 21-30.
