Margaret McLain Orndorff


Margaret was born in Herod, Georgia on May 14, 1923. She was educated in the Terrell County public schools and was a graduate of Dawson High School. She was an honor graduate of the University of Georgia School of Journalism. Margaret worked as a print and radio journalist. She was a radio editor for the Agricultural Extension Service in Athens, a columnist and features writer for the Dawson News, and a local news reporter for WDWD Radio Station in Dawson. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and the Dawson United Methodist Church.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, George Kenneth McLain and Julia McLendon McLain; her husband, James Procter Orndorff; and her sister, Frances McLain Pearson.

Survivors include her children, Margaret Orndorff Lawley and James Procter “Jim” Orndorff, Jr.; grandchildren, George Kenneth Orndorff, Jason Grant Orndorff, James Howard Lawley, and Linda Frankie Azevedo; great-grandchildren, Raley Kenneth Orndorff, Charles McLain Orndorff, Anne Sutton Orndorff, Jason Grant Orndorff, Jr., and Layla Rae Orndorff; and nieces, Judy Pearson McDaniel and Jane Pearson Joiner.
