NASHVILLE — Playing as The Herald’s No. 1-ranked team for the first time this season, the Pelham Lady Hornets stayed dominant Tuesday with an 85-38 win against Region 1-AA foe Berrien.

The Lady Hornets (10-0, 2-0), who ascended to the top spot in the weekly poll after former No. 1 Randolph-Clay lost its first game, led 46-17 at halftime and then outscored Berrien in the second half, 39-21.

Super 6er Briunna Freeman scored a game-high 24 points, while Hillary Williams added 14 points and Quadranique Franklin and Timbreanna Hudson each finished with 12.

Pelham, the lone undefeated girls team left in Southwest Georgia, plays again Friday at home against Thomasville.

PELHAM BOYS 79, BERRIEN 49: The Hornets won their third straight game Tuesday behind 15 points from Shaquille Crimley. Jaquan Green and Joshua Russell also added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Pelham, which is 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the region.

MITCHELL COUNTY GIRLS 68, MILLER COUNTY 28: Mitchell County’s Shonbreka Holton nearly outscored Miller County herself on Tuesday with 24 points to lead the Lady Eagles.

A’Miracle Jones added 15 points for the Lady Eagles (9-4, 1-0), who have won two in a row since back-to-back losses to Herald No. 5 Randolph-Clay and Valdosta.

Mallory Diamond scored 16 points for Miller County (5-4, 0-1).

The Mitchell County boys (5-8) won, 68-34, and were led by Bruce Bryant’s 16 points.

Miller County was led by Rod Williams, who scored 10 points.

DEERFIELD BOYS 76, STRATFORD 57: Highlighted by a 31-point second quarter, the Knights won their third straight game Tuesday.

Dee Barber scored 20 points to lead the Knights, while Justin Eady (16), Christian Wallace (14) and Jay Barber (12) also scored in double figures.

The Knights (7-3) play again Friday at Dominion Christian and Saturday at Heritage before returning home Tuesday with a game against Tattnall Square.

STRATFORD GIRLS 47, DEERFIELD 38: The Lady Knights went on a five-minute scoring drought in the second half and scored just four points in the fourth quarter Tuesday in a loss to Stratford Academy.

Jordan Lane (10 points), Gabby Burt (9) and Libby Greene (6) all led the Lady Knights (4-8) in scoring.

SEMINOLE BOYS 74, BAKER COUNTY 30: Jamal Martin scored a game-high 18 points to lead The Herald No. 3 Seminoles, while teammates Jordan Harris and Jahmyka Pearson both added 13 points.

The Indians are now 9-1 and play again Friday in Camilla against Mitchell County.

Baker County was led by DeVonte Foster, who scored 12 points.

BAINBRIDGE BOYS 57, LINCOLN 49: The Bearcats avenged a loss to Lincoln (Fla.) High School in their first game of the season thanks to 24 points from Herald Super 6er Tyree Crump, who has led Bainbridge in scoring in all 12 games this season.

Travon Shaw added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Bearcats (7-5), who play again Friday at Harris County in their region opener.

CALHOUN COUNTY BOY 66, WEBSTER COUNTY 24: The Herald No. 4 Cougars remained the only undefeated team in Southwest Georgia with an easy win against Webster County.

Calhoun (11-0) was led by DaJohn Williams’ 13 points, while Quenton Taylor and Reginald Ross both added 11 points. Terre Kegler scored 10 points for the Cougars, who play again Friday at home against Terrell County.
