ALBANY —The Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany Officers’ Spouses’ Club will host its annual charity and scholarship auction next month.
The event is set for Feb. 15 at Doublegate Country Club, located at 3800 Old Dawson Road, from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. It will feature silent and live auctions, with a small sample of items to be auctioned including Caribbean vacations, a hunting trip for four, handmade furniture and in-home wine tastings.
The theme for the event will be “A Night at the Oscars.” Attendees are encouraged to come in dressy casual attire or dress in their red carpet best.
The event is open to the public and the cost is $30 per person now, or $35 at the door. All proceeds go to community enrichment grants for area nonprofits and to scholarships for military family members — usually immediate family members of military personnel stationed in Albany or those of civilian personnel working aboard MCLB-Albany who hold a certain title.
Betsy Cisek, co-chair of the auction, said the goal for the event is to raise roughly $12,000. Recipients of grants or scholarships are chosen through an application process via the club’s website, www.usmcoscalbanyga.webs.com, which also includes more detailed information on eligibility criteria.
The deadline to apply for a grant or scholarship is March 14. Last year, five nonprofits were awarded mini-grants from funds raised at the auction, Cisek said.
“We just believe that when we are stationed in an area, we shouldn’t just stick to ourselves,” the auction co-chair said. “We feel like we should be giving back.”
Ticket price includes heavy hors d’oeuvres. For tickets and information, visit https://oscalbanyga.ticketbud.com/osc2014 or contact Dawn Mixa, the club’s executive board president, at email@example.com.
Mixa can also be contacted, Cisek said, by area businesses looking to make a donation — including auction items — to the event.
The Officers’ Spouses’ Club is a nonprofit organization that provides an opportunity for military spouses and members to engage with one another and the Albany community while stationed here, which includes raising funds for area charities and providing scholarships to military family members.
