Dougherty County schools set for collective concert

ALBANY — Music lovers can be entertained Saturday with music from some of the brightest stars in Dougherty County.

Beginning at 7 p.m., student musicians from various Dougherty County middle and high schools will gather at Albany High School’s auditorium for the All-County Honor Band Concert.

“Each student must go through an audition process,” said Scott Kroll, band director at Radium Springs Middle Magnet School of the Arts. The students get to spend time with kids with other schools and develop their musical skills. The whole thing really gives them some great experience.”

Approximately 160 students are selected for the band and gather for two all-day sessions during the week prior to the concert, selecting musical pieces and perfecting them.

On Saturday, their efforts will pay off in a concert free to the community.

“We would love to have everyone come out,” Kroll said. “It’s always been a really nice event for the community.”
