SYLVESTER - Funeral services for the late Mr. Eddie D. Hanford, Sr., of 207 E. Lee St., Sylvester, GA who departed this life on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at his residence, will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Shingler, GA. with the pastor, Rev. Herman West, Jr., Eulogist. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Shingler, GA.
Eddie D. Hanford, Sr. was born July 19, 1921 in Worth County, GA. He was educated in the public school of the Shingler Community in Sylvester, GA. He enlisted in the United States Army December 16, 1942, and received the following decorations and citations during his service: Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
After his honorable discharge, he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and resided there 30 years, where he attended Mechanics Training. He retired as a postal mechanic for the United States Post Office.
Deacon Eddie D. Hanford, Sr. served God faithfully, as a lifelong member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Shingler, GA. He worked earnestly on the Usher Board and as a Deacon. He worked tirelessly with the finances, building, transportation, grounds, congregational activities, and provided support to members wherever needed. Also, he was a member of the Olive Branch Lodge No. 8, F. & A. M., Prince Hall Affiliation of Philadelphia, PA for over 30 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Bertha Lee Hanford, his devoted wife of 26 years; children, Eddie D. Hanford, Jr (Natasha), Linda Elizabeth Hanford Bell (Gordan Goodman), James Evans, Jr. (Patchanee) and Jacquelyn Crutchfield (Johnoson); sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
