ALBANY — Those who appreciate the art of Zumba and an opportunity to keep their hearts in shape will be in luck this weekend.
In an effort to encourage residents of Southwest Georgia to get heart healthy during American Heart Month in February, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital is hosting a Zumbathon from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday at Phoebe HealthWorks, 311 W. Third Ave. in Albany.
This event is open to the public. Tickets are $10 for adults ages 16 and up, $5 for children ages 6-15 and free for children 5 and under. Tickets can be purchased at Phoebe HealthWorks. Participants are encouraged to bring water and a towel.
Information available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website shows that about 600,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year, and that heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women.
Proceeds from Saturday’s event will benefit Phoebe Foundation in support of cardiac services at Phoebe.
