ALBANY —The Albany Police Department responded to an armed robbery at an East Albany business Thursday evening.
Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman with the APD, said that officers, both uniform patrol and detectives, responded to Dollar General at 1515 Radium Springs Road at around 9:30 p.m. in reference to an armed robbery in progress.
Contact was made with three victims, who reported the suspect had entered the store and demanded money from the register. The suspect forced an employee to open the cash register at gunpoint, and once the suspect had the money in hand, he ran out of the store, Banks said.
Two customers were inside the store shopping at the time. The suspect was described as a black male with a short, stocky build wearing a black shirt, black pants and a black ski mask covering his face. He reportedly had a semi-automatic pistol.
The stolen property was an undisclosed amount of money. The case has been turned over to the APD Robbery Homicide Unit, Banks said.
