Albany and Southwest Georgia celebrate America

Fireworks shows are planned on Independence Day in Albany, Camilla, Bainbridge, Cordele and Thomasville

If you’re looking to celebrate Independence Day with a few hundred to a few thousand friends, here are some options Friday in Southwest Georgia.


City of Albany’s annual celebration starts at 3 p.m. at the Exchange Club Fairgrounds, 810 S. Westover Blvd. Live music, kids activities and food vendors. Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. and conclude by 10:30 p.m. Admission: $2 per person or $5 per car up to six people; Military free with ID. No bags, weapons, alcohol, coolers, pets or personal fireworks allowed.


Reed Bingham State Park’s 4th of July Celebration is 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the park, 542 Reed Bingham Road, Adel. Friday’s events include alligator sand castle building and ole timey games and activities. Saturday has a bike parade, reptile program, patriotic arts and crafts, and a pontoon tour, followed by a campfire program at 8 p.m. Ask the Naturalist both days.


The 4th of July Bash is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Pecan Festival Grounds at Old Georgia Highway 2. Included will be water slides and basketball tournaments, food and entertainment. Participants are invited to bring their barbecue grills.


The annual Independence Day celebration is at Earle May Boat Basin Park, 100 Boat Basin Circle, starting at 6:30 p.m. The headline band Little Texas will perform, followed by what is billed as “Southwest Georgia’s largest fireworks display” at dark.


The annual Forth celebration in Camilla begins at 6:30 p.m. at Mitchell County High School, with activities, games and food vendors. The fireworks show is scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m. behind the high school.


Fireworks on the Flint will be at Veterans Memorial State Park, 2459 U.S. Highway West, Cordele. Water-slide rides all day, with the fireworks show 9:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Parking fee of $5 applies.


July 4th Fireworks & Festivities will start at 6:30 p.m. at “The Bottom,” West Jackson Street in downtown Thomasville. Games, food, and music beginning at 6:30 p.m. Live music by Moody. Fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m.


Independence Day Celebration 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Westville, 9294 Singer Pond Road, Lumpkin. Events include old fashioned games and a parade through the historic village. Admission ranges from $8-$10, free to pre-kindergartners and active and retired military with ID.
