Child left in car on Dawson Road in Albany

Individual taken into custody after child discovered in car

ALBANY — A child was discovered alone inside a parked vehicle in the parking lot of a shopping center on Dawson Road around 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to Albany Police Department officials.

Officials with the Albany Police Department confirm that officers responded to 2709 Dawson Road just before 1 p.m. on reports of a child being left inside a 1998 GMC Yukon. The child, Jordyn McMillan, 2, is fine, officers said. Paramedics were called to the scene, but the mother refused to let them check the child.

Jordyn’s mother, Alexus Breanna Allen, 20, was taken into custody in connection to the incident, officials said. She has been charged with reckless conduct. The child has since been turned over to a relative.

The child had been in the car about 25 minutes, Albany police officials said. The incident was reported by the manager of Pet Smart, who said she saw the child in the car and noticed the window was cracked about two inches. She reached inside, unlocked the car door and removed the child from the vehicle, officers said.
