Man sent to hospital after shooting outside State Theater

ALBANY — A 19-year-old was sent to an Albany hospital after a shooting outside a downtown venue on Saturday.

Officers responded to State Theater at 313 Pine Ave. in reference to a shooting at around 2:30 a.m. Contact was made with the victim, identified as Antonio Spann, 19, who advised that a fight had broken out in the street in front of State Theater. Shots were fired in the air by an unknown person, and he was hit by bullet while trying to flee from the scene, officials from the Albany Police Department said.

Police officials said the victim suffered a single gunshot wound and was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for care. A spokeswoman for the hospital said Spann was in good condition as of midday Monday. No arrests were made, no suspects have been identified, and the case has been referred to investigations and remains open and active.

Officials with the APD said witnesses at the scene would not cooperate, and that the case has since been referred to the agency’s gang unit for investigation.
