ALBANY — Two arrests were made in connection to an armed robbery that occurred on South Slappey Boulevard last week.
Detectives with the Albany Police Department Criminal Investigations Bureau recently made two arrests in reference to the armed robbery that took place at 517 South Slappey Blvd., at Metro Pool and Games, on July 16. Police officials say significant tip information from the community helped detectives develop Dewayne Gainer as the first suspect. Apprehended from his home located on the 200 block of Sixth Avenue, Gainer was initially taken in for questioning around 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Detectives conducted additional interviews and developed a second suspect in the armed robbery, Jim Dorsey. Dorsey was visiting a family member at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and was apprehended by officers in the parking lot at around 1:30 a.m.- 2 a.m. on Friday, officials said.
Initial reports from police officials on the incident said a robber entered the business around 2:15 p.m on July 16 and demanded money from the register. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and fired at least two shots inside the business, the reports said.
Gainer faces charges including tampering with evidence and armed robbery, and Dorsey faces charges including armed robbery, false imprisonment, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a crime, records from the Dougherty County Jail show.
