ALBANY — Scott Dent Jr. and Melissa Burger have been identified as the two victims who died as a result of a wreck that took place at the intersection of Nelms Road and Stagecoach Road on Saturday, reports from the Dougherty County Police Department show.
The report says that Dent was driving a 2002 Ford F-150 traveling south on Stagecoach Road when he ran a stop sign at its intersection with Nelms Road at around 11:20 a.m., causing him to hit a 1998 Dodge Ram being driven westward on Nelms by Bobby Freddie Phillips, on the right side. The F-150 continued southwest and hit a utility pole and a fire hydrant, and the Dodge Ram went southward another 110 feet before coming to rest in the northbound lane of Stagecoach, officers said.
The report indicates witnesses told officers that Dent was traveling at a high rate of speed before impact.
Burger, who was the passenger in the Dodge Ram, was pronounced dead at the scene. Dent was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:45 p.m., the report said.
No charges have been filed based on the reporting officer’s observations, physical evidence on the scene, the statements of all parties and the deaths of Dent and Burger. Possible charges on Phillips are pending the results of a blood alcohol test, the report said.
Phillips was listed in good condition on Monday afternoon at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.
