Arts group holds downtown barbecue fundraiser

Barbecue chef will prepare some of his specialties for today’s event

Fundraiser set today for Albany’s arts scene

ALBANY — Barbecue chef Buck O’Neal will prepare lunches of chicken wings and pulled pork for supporters of downtown and the burgeoning Albany arts scene as The Kattalistt Creative Group presents a barbecue lunch fundraiser today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Plates, which are $8 each, include O’Neal’s specially made chicken and pulled pork, baked beans and cole slaw. They may be purchased on site or picked up at the downtown Art Park on Pine Avenue. The fundraiser is sponsored by Stardust Skate Centers, Coldwell Banker/Walden and Kirkland, Redeeming Broken Vessels, Phil Cannon & Associates, Little Whiskey River, Anchor Packaging, FireCraft, the Wharf, and S&S Roofing and Construction.

Market to open at Fifth and Monroe on July 19

ALBANY — The downtown farmers market previously sponsored by the Southwest Georgia Project has been incorporated into the Tift Park Community Market collaborative, which will open under the oaks on the corner of Fifth Avenue and North Monroe Street July 19.

The Tift Park Community Market will include crafts, entertainment, produce grown by area farmers and the works of local artists. It will be held Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The market will be a collaborative effort of the D’town Albany Arts Coalition, the Southwest Georgia Project, Friends of Tift Park, Studio VC, Food for 1,000 and Greenlife Garden.
