Burglars bash glass doors at Albany store and restaurant

The would-be thieves leave the Albany businesses empty-handed

ALBANY — Would-be thieves tried a double smash-and-grab Tuesday at Subway Sandwich shop and Woodall’s Gas on Jefferson Street Tuesday, but left without the cash, officials say.

Melissa Williams, manager of Woodall’s gas and convenience store at 404 N. Jefferson St., said she was called to the business around 4:35 a.m. on Tuesday to meet with officers of the Albany Police Department and to shut off a burglar alarm.

According to Williams, a later examination of surveillance video showed that around 4:20 a.m. two men who’d been hiding outside the store shattered the front glass door, as well as the door of the adjoining Subway restaurant, and gained entrance to the businesses.

“They came inside, but they didn’t stay very long,” Williams said. “Our alarm is very loud and we think it scared them off. They didn’t take anything from the store.”

Williams said both men were wearing makeshift masks to cover their faces.
